Quick answer: Denali is GMC's luxury trim, built around leather, comfort and technology. AT4 is the off-road trim, built around a raised ride height, all-terrain tires and skid plates. On the Acadia and Yukon, GMC lists both, so the choice comes down to comfort features or off-road capability.
Denali: the comfort and technology trim
Denali sits at the top of GMC's trim ladder. On the 2027 Acadia, GMC lists leather-appointed front and second-row seats, heated and ventilated front seats, an 8-inch head-up display, 20-inch machined wheels, power-folding third-row seats and one-touch folding second-row seats. Ground clearance is 7.30 inches.
On the 2027 Yukon, GMC lists the 6.2L V8 as standard on the Denali, along with Super Cruise and a 3-year OnStar One plan, a 15-inch multicolor head-up display, a power-sliding center console, Magnetic Ride Control, 20-inch wheels (22- and 24-inch available) and a chrome grille.
AT4: the off-road trim
AT4 changes how the vehicle sits and what it rides on. On the 2027 Acadia, GMC lists all-wheel drive only, Active Torque Control, off-road-tuned suspension, lifted ride height, 7.75 inches of ground clearance, 18-inch dark machined wheels with all-terrain tires, steel skid plates and Night Rider chrome accents. The Elevation lists 6.77 inches for comparison.
On the 2027 Yukon, GMC lists a raised front fascia with a skid plate and red recovery hooks, 20-inch all-terrain wheels, Magnetic Ride Control, heated and ventilated front seats and a Nightrider Chrome grille.
The Ultimate trims
Both families have a step above. On the Acadia, the Denali Ultimate adds Super Cruise as standard with a 3-year OnStar One plan, heated and ventilated massaging front seats, a 16-speaker Bose system, a panoramic sunroof and 22-inch wheels. On the Yukon, GMC lists an AT4 Ultimate and a Denali Ultimate. Both list Super Cruise, Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and 16-way power front seats with massage, and the Denali Ultimate adds 24-inch wheels, an 18-speaker Bose system and power assist steps. You can read more about hands-free driving on our Super Cruise page.
What stays the same
On the Acadia, the trim does not change the engine. GMC lists the same 2.5L turbo with 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque and an 8-speed automatic on every trim. On the Yukon, the engine depends on the trim: GMC lists the 6.2L V8 as standard on the Denali, AT4 Ultimate and Denali Ultimate and available on the others, and the 5.3L V8 as standard on the Elevation. A 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel is an option on the Yukon.
Which one fits you?
Start with how you drive. If most of your miles are paved and you want the most cabin features, the Denali is the trim built for that. If you want the extra ground clearance, all-terrain tires and underbody protection, the AT4 is. If you want hands-free driving on compatible highways, look at the trims where Super Cruise is standard and ask Sales to confirm it on the exact vehicle.
Denali and AT4 on a Sierra
GMC builds Sierra pickups in both AT4 and Denali trims, including the Sierra 2500 HD. We compare trims line by line here on the Acadia and Yukon because GMC's own pages for those models let us do it from published figures. For a Sierra, ask Sales to walk through the window sticker of the exact truck, or start with our new GMC Sierra 1500 page and our heavy-duty trucks.
What changed for 2027
GMC's Acadia and Yukon pages now show the 2027 model year, and the trim details above come from those pages. Our lot can hold both 2026 and 2027 models, and equipment can differ between them, so ask Sales which model year you are looking at and read its window sticker.
